BEMIDJI – The Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing accepted the Minnesota’s Touchstone Energy Community Award during the Minnesota Rural Electric Association’s annual meeting March 6 in St. Paul.

Along with the engraved crystal award, the organization received $1,000 to further its efforts. Additionally, the organization recently received the Beltrami Electric Cooperative local award.

The purpose of Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing is to promote an outdoor-oriented lifestyle among the area’s youth by showing the enjoyment that can be found in fishing. Since its inception in 1987, Bemidji Take a Kid Fishing has impacted over 4,000 kids ages 10 to 15. Each year, 75-80 adult guides volunteer their time, equipment and expertise to help make a positive event for the community’s youth.

The Touchstone Energy Community Award recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding contributions to their community. The Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing is the first organization nominated by Beltrami Electric to take home the statewide prize, which was selected from all local award winners throughout the state.
