The National Weather Service said 3-5 inches of snow could fall, with isolated areas receiving up to 6 inches.

The snow is expected to begin later today and continue into tonight.

The highest amounts of snow are expected through much of northwest Minnesota.

Due to temperatures, some locations may see rain mixed with snow, the weather service said.

Residents in the most impacted areas are advised to pay attention to updates as the weather system develops.

It is expected the heaviest snow will fall in Beltrami County this afternoon and evening, and the system will leave the area Tuesday morning.

A winter weather advisory for snow means travel could become difficult. Motorists should be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility.
