SWIMMING: Bemidji sixth at Brainerd
BRAINERD – The Bemidji High School swimming team took sixth out of seven teams at the Brainerd Warrior Invitational here Thursday afternoon.
The Lumberjacks scored 163 points, while hosts Brainerd won the meet handily, scoring 543. Melrose/Sauk Center took second at 456. Monticello, Minneapolis Southwest and Perham finished in front of Bemidji, while Moorhead took seventh.
The Lumberjacks had some decent individual performances but no first-place finishes.
Tyler Hemp took third place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 11.31 seconds.
The 200 medley relay team of Hemp, Nate Gubbels, Matt Arndt and Nick Gubbels placed fourth with a time of 1:52.93.
Nick Gubbels also scored points for the Jacks in two other events; he took fifth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.33 and sixth in the 50 freestyle at 24.84.
The Lumberjacks have a week off before returning to the pool for competition. They’ll host Grand Rapids Jan. 3 in a dual meet at 5 p.m.
