BEMIDJI – The section meet is a few weeks away and figuring out a lineup will be difficult for the Bemidji girls swimming coaches.
All season head coach Woody Leindecker and assistant Kristin McRae have experimented with their roster.
It is not unusual for a swimmer to do the 50 free one night and then switch to the 100 back for the next meet.
The experimentation continued Tuesday when the Lumberjacks hosted Fosston-Bagley. Bemidji, which swam the final four events as exhibition, officially won 87-79 but more important than the team score were the individual performances.
“This meet just made our section lineup more confusing,” Leindecker said. “We have a better idea about who will be on the section team but we still don’t know where we will swim people because our lineup is so versatile.
“But I’m not complaining,” Leindecker continued. “Not knowing who will swim where because everyone is swimming very well in everything is a good problem to have.”
The Lumberjacks won each event Tuesday although they didn’t receive credit for the wins in the final four exhibition races.
In the 200 medley relay Madi Knutson, Anna Ingalls, Maris Jahner and Katie Krause set the pace (2:11.00), hitting the wall just ahead of teammates Emily Kivi, Steph Frey, Amayah Littlewolf and Shayna Fellman (2:13.10).
Danielle Hoven and Jamie Vanasse placed 1-2 in the 200 free with Hoven winning in a time of 2:11.53.
Bemidji’s other winners included Alyssa Wright in the 200 individual medley (2:40.60), Frey in the 50 free (25.78) and 500 free (5:31.47), Kylei Grosfield in diving (239.60), Jahner in the 100 fly (1:07.13) and Hoven in the 100 free (58.97).
Swimming exhibition but posting the top times were Erin Arndt in the 100 back (1:10.11) and 100 breast stroke (1:17.63), the 200 free relay team of Kayla Hewitt, Alyssa Johnson, Krause and Jahner (1:50.64) plus the 400 free relay quartet of Jahner, Kivi, Krause and McRae (4:08.52).
Bemidji will end its regular season Oct. 26 at Grand Rapids. Following that meet the Lumberjacks will begin their taper training.
