Blackduck newspaper columnist Jack Swenson has been re-elected to the board of directors of The Fossils, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of amateur journalism.

Swenson's election to another term was announced by the group's secretary, Tom Parsons of Denver, who noted that Swenson has also served as president of the American Amateur Press Association.

"Amateur journalism existed long before today's Internet blogs," Swenson said, "and involved such well-known individuals as Thomas Edison, using small printing presses and hand-set type to turn out their work. Keeping a record of what they did and what they had to say is what the Fossil organization is all about."

His 'Across the Lake' column has been a regular feature of The American since 2001, as have his numerous articles and news stories.

A Cat's Tale, a children's book Swenson wrote for a young grandson, won this year's fiction award from AAPA.
