Area student receives scholarship

BEMIDJI — Jamiee Lusby, daughter of Mark and Tracie Lusby of Bemidji has been selected to receive the North Dakota State University Vernon Markey Memorial Scholarship Fund in the amount of $633.

She will be recognized at the NDSU College of Human Development and Education Honors Day Brunch and Award Ceremony on Tuesday. Lusby is a freshman majoring in hospitality and tourism management and minoring in business administration.

Local student inducted into honor society

BEMIDJI — Abby Hendricks, daughter of Troy and Sue Hendricks of Laporte will be inducted into the Omega Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma at the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph. Hendricks is one of 21 CSB students selected.

Hendricks is a senior biology major. She is involved as a pharmacy technician at a store in St. Joseph, played varsity basketball for the Blazers for two seasons, and has volunteered in the Dominican Republic during an alternative break experience.

Local students participate in competitions

BEMIDJI — North Dakota State University Marksmanship Club members had an outstanding showing during pistol and rifle shooting competitions at the 2014 National Rifle Association National Collegiate Championships held in March at Fort Benning, Ga. NDSU participants in the pistol competition included Caitlyn Fleahman, a sophomore majoring in pharmaceutical sciences from Bemidji and Grant Johnson, a sophomore majoring in finance from Bemidji.

They were selected based on scores at various matches, as well as their showing in NRA Sectional Championship Matches in January and February.

Local student named reserve high-point team

BEMIDJI — North Dakota State University’s equestrian team finished its regular show season as the Zone 7 Region 3 reserve high-point team.

Four members of the team participated the semifinal competition at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

They competed in preliminary rounds and advanced to the finals. NDSU team members included: Ashley Lindell, a senior from Solway, Minn., who was seventh in open horsemanship and honorable mention in reining.
