Students injured when SUV rear-ends school bus in Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - A school bus here was rear-ended this morning near the high school in an accident that sent two high school students to the hospital.

Detroit Lakes Police Chief Kel Keena said the bus was headed to the high school when a sport utility vehicle hit the bus as the driver was waiting for pedestrians to cross the street.

The students were taken to St. Mary's Innovis Hospital in Detroit Lakes after complaining of pain related to the accident. One was taken to the hospital from the scene after complaints related to neck pain and another was taken after complaining of pain after arriving at school.

The bus driver was also taken to the hospital for required alcohol and drug screening that commercial drivers are subject to after an accident.
