--PULLOUT--Whirlwindsoldier studies her culture

BEMIDJI -- Miranda Whirlwindsoldier, a student in the Bi-CAP YouthBuild program, was recently enrolled in a "Journeys of Creativity" program June 16 to July 3 at Oregon College, Portland, Ore.

She traveled by Amtrak from Detroit Lakes to Portland, Ore. and was engaged with projects including basket weaving, ceramics, sketching, painting and carving. During the program, she slept in a teepee.

Whirlwindsoldier was mentored by many significant artists during her stay and was able to learn more about her Native American culture.
