A winter storm warning continues for the Bemidji area until 1 p.m. Monday, although it appears the worst of the event is over. About 3 inches of snow fell Sunday, and high winds cause travel issues in the region. Bemidji area schools will start two hours late on Monday.

Another storm system could develop on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, but that one might stay south of the Bemidji area. There is potential for accumulating snow in the southern Red River Valley into west central Minnesota.

Snow began falling in the Bemidji area around 4 p.m. Sunday and continued into the evening. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. This storm could dump as much as 8 inches of snow on the area before it fizzles Monday afternoon.

Bemidji residents awoke to sunny skies and 17 degrees Sunday morning. According to the seven-day forecast, the temperature will not reach the 40s until the weekend.

Monday: Snow, mainly before 4 p.m. High near 36. Northeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 26. West northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. North wind around 6 mph becoming east northeast after midnight.

Wednesday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 37. East northeast wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
