Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

More than 20 people called the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office Tuesday regarding mail that may have been stolen from them Aug. 24.

The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office said several people had called to report the possible theft of their mail, and the calls were still coming.

A Beltrami County citizen reported Friday that he had found a large quantity of mail near his residence. The mail included addresses from Frohn Township in Beltrami County and Farden Township in Hubbard County.

Residents of those townships were asked to contact their local sheriff's office if they believed they were missing mail from Aug. 24.

Many of the 20-some people who contacted Beltrami County did so to say they may have been missing mail. Others, however, reported that they were missing checks, credit cards or registration for vehicles.

Due to the nature of some of the mail, residents of the two townships were asked to be aware of possible identity theft. They were directed to visit the Web site consumer.gov/idtheft or call (877) 438-4338.

If residents are missing mail, those in Hubbard County should call their sheriff's office at (218) 732-3331 and those in Beltrami County should call 333-9111.
