At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center after learning a three-month-old baby had been brought to the emergency room with serious injuries, according to Beryl Wernberg, 911 communications supervisor/emergency management director for Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

Initially, the assault was believed to have occurred in Hubbard County, but the investigation revealed it took place at a residence in the 19000 block of Mission Road Southeast in Ten Lakes Township, approximately 15 miles east of Bemidji in Beltrami County.

Deputies learned the child was in the process of being flown to the Sanford Hospital in Fargo due to the critical nature of the injuries.

Deputies are continuing to investigate what occurred at the residence where the family was staying.
