Karen Propeck, who helps organize the event, said planners are preparing for around 600 people.

“It has been (growing),” she said. “We get more families and people who come because they don’t have family it town.”

There also appears to be an increasing number of local families who attend the meal each year, she agreed.

“They come to get the fellowship of people as they eat,” Propeck said. “It’s kind of nice.”

The meal is delivered to those who are homebound and also is available for pickup. Rides are provided for those who cannot transport themselves.

The site of the annual community meal rotates around about a half-dozen local churches large enough to accommodate the popular event.

“What’s gotten easier is we’re on a rotating basis now,” she said. “It makes it easier so churches cab plan.”

Smaller churches get involved, too, as they provide volunteers and donations, Propeck noted.
