Spry, Blotske, Booth rally Bemidji girls soccer team to victory
Josie Spry, Caitlin Blotske and Erin Booth scored goals to rally the Bemidji High School girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Hillcrest Academy Friday in Fergus Falls.
Casey Palmer finished with seven saves in net the victory.
"The girls had a hard time against this kind of team that kicks the ball a long ways back and forth," head coach Kelly Schoonover said. "But in the second half the girls really took control, passed well and worked hard as a team to score all three of our goals in the second half."
Bemidji fell behind in the first half when Hillcrest scored the first goal of the game at the 21 minute mark. It was the only scored in the first half.
Spry answered for the Jacks when she used her head to redirect the ball into the net off an assist from Andrea Hanson. Her goal game at the 47 minute mark and tied the game at 1-1.
Hillcrest regained the lead three minutes later.
But Blotske kept the Jacks in the game when she dribbled the ball up the left side of the field and beat the goalie on a 20-yard shot to tie the game at 2-2 at the 58 minute mark.
Booth scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute when her low, close range shot beat the Hillcrest goalie. Blotske was credited with the assist.
Booth's goal secured Bemidji's sixth win of the season and the Jacks improved to 6-8 overall.
The Lumberjacks junior varsity team defeated Hillcrest 2-0. Sara Ludow scored both the goals for Bemidji and Whitney Morin had four saves in net.
Bemidji hosts Crookston on Monday the Middle School soccer field in its next game. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
