Sonya Marie Wilson, 27, of Thief River Falls, Minn., formerly of Red Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Traditional funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah. A wake will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ponemah Community Center. Burial will be in the family burial grounds.
Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.
The pallbearers will be Melvin Wilson, Delwyn Wilson, Vinson Wilson, Derrick Spears, Marty Raincloud, Mitchell C. Kingbird and Lee Morrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sasheena Cloud, Bear Woman Stately, Keena Raincloud, Miranda Rosebear, Bernadette Raincloud, LaRayne "Kim" Kingbird, Betsy Rosebear and Melissa Wilson.
She was born on May 1, 1981, to Melvin Kingbird Jr. and Roberta Wilson in Minneapolis. She grew up and attended school in Red Lake. She worked at Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls. She enjoyed spending time with her children and friends, reading and attending powwows.
She is survived by her mother of Duluth, Minn.; father of Red Lake; daughters, Skylah of Thief River Falls, Serena of Thief River Falls and Tiara of Kettle River, Minn.; an infant son, Drayven of Red Lake; sisters, Sasheena Cloud of Minneapolis and Teena LaPointe of Bemidj; brothers, Melvin Wilson of Ponemah, Dennis Reynolds of Cloquet, Minn., Sheldon Kingbird of Duluth and Lucas Kingbird of Red Cliff, Wis.; maternal grandfather, Ernest Wilson of Red Lake and three uncles.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Philomene Wilson and paternal grandparents, Melvin and Edna Kingbird.
