Osborn was 26, according to FreedomRemembered.com, which said he died in Muqer, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his units with small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire.

The Rev. Dwight Warden with Blackduck Evangelical Free Church said Miriam Osborn, who moved to Blackduck in 2005, left Saturday for Delaware to meet the dignified transfer of Osborne’s body.

Services will be planned in Indiana.

The Journal & Courier reported Friday that Osborn was a 2005 graduate of McCutcheon High School in Lafayette and had been a member of the football and wrestling teams. As a wrestler, he was an individual state qualifier at 152 pounds and captain of the 2005 regional championship wrestling team.

Osborn decided to forgo a college wrestling career to join the Army, the newspaper reported.

Miriam Osborn moved to Blackduck after Osborn graduated high school, so he never lived in the area.

Miriam Osborn has become an active member in the Blackduck community, Warden said. She is the personnel manager with Andersen Fabrics and volunteers with the Chamber of Commerce and serves on the library board.
