Bemidji Area Civil Air Patrol-Northland Squadron has nominated Cadet 2nd Lt. Ethan Helgager and Janelle Vance as special volunteers.

Helgager has amassed 299 days of volunteerism during his three-and-a-half year career with Civil Air Patrol. That translates into volunteering 10 times per month, every month during that time. As a past cadet commander for the squadron, Helgager set the standard early in 2007 for the squadron's community service mindset. He encouraged other cadets to think of volunteering as fun and a way to help others. Because of his leadership and example in this area, the Civil Air Patrol's cadets are seen throughout the community with willing hands that enjoy making a difference in someone else's life.

Vance serves Civil Air Patrol as executive board member, finance officer and member of the special projects committee. In addition, she serves an active role on the fundraising committee and frequently volunteers for Civil Air Patrol's community service projects in and around Bemidji. Her creativity and advice are sought after for each of Civil Air Patrol's events. The countless hours of behind the scenes contributions she provides creates a foundation that helps make the squadron strong.

Civil Air Patrol is the auxiliary of the Air Force serving three missions for America: Cadet Programs, Emergency Services and Aerospace Education. Civil Patrol is a leadership laboratory for today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders.
