Someone Special Volunteers for 08/10/2014
The Bemidji Pioneer, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson, and the United Way recognize "Someone Special Volunteers" who have made significant contributions to the community.
Oak Hills Christian College has nominated Becky Koehnen as a Someone Special volunteer.
Koehnen has faithfully volunteered for more than a year at Oak Hills Christian College. She
supports the central office by helping with projects and gathering recycling. Koehnen also is the organization's purchaser, and supervises a group of volunteers that help with mailings. Koehnen's positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed has been so beneficial to Oak Hills. Her time and friendship is much appreciated.
Oak Hills Christian College has deep roots in the Minnesota Northwoods. From its start in 1946, they have been teaching, training and transforming those who have come here for service in God's Kingdom for over 65 years.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has nominated Mary Ellen Olson as a Someone Special volunteer. America Reads is an RSVP program site in Beltrami County for volunteers age 55 and older. Olson is one of 32 volunteers who listen to students read every week, for one to two hours, at local elementary schools. Olson just completed her 11th school year of working with students in Kelly Brunetta's second-grade classroom at Lincoln School. Brunetta appreciates Olson's sense of humor and says "Mary is fantastic with the kids." Olson has also been involved with the Readers Theater for 10 years. She is the spark plug of Readers Theater, a real lively character no matter which part she plays.
