Some voter ID amendment foes frustrated with DFL
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Some opponents of the proposed amendment to require Minnesota voters to show a photo ID at the polls are angry at the Minnesota DFL Party. They say the party is not putting enough resources into defeating the amendment.
Phyllis Hill, a lead organizer with the Twin Cities faith-based group ISAIAH, tells Minnesota Public Radiothe requirement would be a setback for civil rights. She says she's disappointed the DFL hasn't done more to help.
The Rev. Jerry McAfee of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis accuses the DFL of ignoring voter ID to focus instead on defeating the marriage amendment.
DFL Chairman Ken Martin counters that the party has already directed tens of thousands of dollars, as well as other non-monetary donations, to the voter ID opposition.
