Solheim pitches complete game in Bemidji baseball win at Sartell
Zach Solheim pitched a complete-game 2-hitter and the offense was able to scratch out three runs as the Bemidji baseball team extended its winning streak to two games with a 3-0 victory Thursday at Sartell.
The Lumberjacks won't have much time to savor the victory, however, as today sees them entertaining Fergus Falls at 4 p.m. and Brainerd following the first game.
The contest with Brainerd was added to the schedule Wednesday when both teams were looking for ways to make up lost games. Brainerd was willing to make the trip north today and Bemidji was happy to accommodate.
Solheim yielded a single to Aaron Peters to lead off the game and Peters collected another single to open the third. A double-play ended the first-inning threat and Peters was eliminated from the bases in the third on a fielder's choice.
Sartell had only one other runner, Brandon Waldvogel, who was hit by a pitch with two outs in the seventh.
Blake Guggenberger, however, grounded back to Solheim on the next pitch to end the game.
The Jacks scored the only run they would need in the third inning when Mitchell Hendricks singled and advanced to second on an error and Collin Leif singled him home.
BHS added a pair of insurance tallies in the seventh. Cody Jenkins ripped a one-out home run for the first run of the stanza and a walk to Jeremiah Graves and Hendricks' double combined for the other.
Jenkins finished with a home run and a single to lead Bemidji's attack. Hendricks had a single and a double and Tyler Follis ripped a double.
Bemidji will take a 5-4 record into today's action. Sartell fell to 3-4.
