SOFTBALL: Yost throws no-hitter as Bemidji wins two more games
DETROIT LAKES — Behind a vintage Jess Yost pitching performance and a strong afternoon at the plate, the Bemidji High School softball team won two games Saturday afternoon.
Yost threw a no-hitter in game one as the Lumberjacks shut out Thief River Falls 6-0, and the Jacks continued their winning ways in the second game, beating Detroit Lakes 12-2.
The Lumberjacks improved their overall record to 10-3 with the win and have now won six straight games.
In the first game, Yost struck out eight and walked just one as she held the Prowlers to no hits.
Yost also tripled, doubled and singled in the game to help her own cause in the game.
The Lumberjacks scored a run in the third inning, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to win 6-0.
Bemidji had 12 total hits. Sylvia Grimm also had three hits in the game for BHS.
In the second game, the Lumberjacks once again brought their bats, plating 12 runs in 15 hits to rout Detroit Lakes.
The Lumberjacks scored one run in the first inning and two in the third. The Lakers answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and the score remained 3-2 until the top of the seventh.
That’s when the Jacks scored nine runs to win 12-2.
Brianna Neumann pitched and got the win for Bemidji, striking out four and walking six.
Offensively for the Jacks, Courtney Black had four hits and Grimm had three hits.
