SOFTBALL: Upper Iowa ends BSU's season with doubleheader sweep
FAYETTE, Iowa — Despite producing its highest offensive output in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this season, the BSU softball team came up empty in a conference doubleheader against Upper Iowa Saturday, falling 6-0 in game one and 7-6 in 10 innings.
BSU ends its season 11-31 overall and winless (0-26) in NSIC play, however the 11-win total is a three-win improvement from 2013.
In game one Upper Iowa starter Jacqueline Flood held Bemidji State to just one hit through six innings and went 4-for-4 at the plate.
The Peacocks chased BSU starter Allison Roberts after three and Danielle Jecmen came in to pitch the rest of the game.
Brittany Lenander got the lone hit off Flood, while Jessica Yost and Lyndsey Peterson collected hits off UIU reliever Brooklyn Koranda.
In game two, BSU had a pair of four-run leads, but Upper Iowa fought its way back to force extra innings and eventually win 7-6 in 10 innings.
The Beavers managed 12 hits off Upper Iowa pitchers Brooke Redmond and Koranda but the Peacocks had 14 off Yost, who pitched all of game two and took the loss.
BSU took a 6-2 lead in the top of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs but Upper Iowa scored four in the bottom half of the inning thanks to two BSU errors.
That sent the game to extra inniongs and Upper Iowa won on a walkoff double by Adrienna Olson in the 10th inning.
Freshmen Alayna Krejci and Angie Roberts both notched run-producing doubles for BSU in the game and Nicole Dupay also produced a run with a single.
