Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Bemidji State softball team dropped a pair of shutouts to Minnesota State Moorhead Saturday afternoon at the Morningside Little League Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Dragons won the first game 2-0 and completed the sweep with a 6-0 victory in the second game. The Beavers were the home team in both contests.

MSU Moorhead, which beat BSU 7-4 Feb. 19 before the Beavers evened the season series with a 9-4 win the following day, ended a 26-game losing streak and earned its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC)

The Dragons improved to 4-31 on the season and 2-18 in league play. Bemidji State is now 8-31 overall with a 2-20 conference ledger.

The first game was a pitchers duel between BSU’s Allie Duellman and MSUM’s Morgan Nybo. The two exchanged scoreless frames for the first six innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, however, the Dragons broke through. Kristy Bruni got on base and advanced to third base and Moriah Bruns singled her home to put MSUM up 1-0. Mollie Annen then knocked in Bruns with a double to extend MSU Moorhead’s lead and they held on to win.

The Dragons got off to a faster start in the second game, scoring two one-out runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. After adding one run in the second and two more in the third, Kristen Nordby capped the day’s scoring with a home run in the sixth.

Taylor Clifton completed MSU Moorhead’s second shutout of the day to garner her first win of the season. Kelsey Saralampi suffered the loss.

Mikayla Osterman led BSU with the teams’ only two hits in the first game and fellow freshman Chelsey Watson had two hits in the second game.

The Beavers will finish the weekend with two games today against Northern State in Sioux City. BSU finishes its season next week, playing at the University of Mary Wednesday before hosting Upper Iowa and Northern State. The dates, times, and locations of those games are subject to change.
