Softball: Big innings lead Buffalo past Bemidji
BUFFALO -- Buffalo spotted Bemidji a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Bison answered with two in their half of the stanza and seven in the second inning to down the Lumberjacks softball team 13-1 Saturday in Buffalo.
Saturday’s setback dropped BHS to 1-2 on the season. The Jacks will hope for a better result Monday when they travel to Grand Forks Red River for a 6:30 p.m. game.
Bemidji took a 1-0 lead in the first but squandered an opportunity to put up a crooked number on the scoreboard. Singles by Mariah Dahl, Heather Olson and Hanna Olson loaded the bases with nobody out but BHS managed only one run as Buffalo pitcher Payton Speckel retired the next two batters before issuing a walk to Sydney Hinrichs to force in Dahl.
The Lumberjacks managed only one more hit in the five-inning contest, a single by Sarah Apel.
Monica Wittner started on the BHS mound and was saddled with the loss.
