Snustad building update, land use permit approved in Blackduck
The Blackduck Planning Commission met in a rescheduled meeting on Wednesday, April 2, at Blackduck City Hall after low attendance prompted the postponement of the Wednesday, March 26, meeting.
Concerns for the demolition of the Snustad building in downtown Blackduck were voiced at the commission’s February meeting, and the project has since made forward progress.
The building, located at 73 Main St. NW which most recently was a funeral home, has passed several inspections in order to be demolished and City Administrator Christina Regas said the demolition will go forward once more snow melts and the temperatures rise. An exact date hasn’t been set.
Arthur Snustad, who owned the building, passed away in August and his estate is being managed by family members. Regas has been in contact with them.
In other business, Blackduck Public School requested a land use permit to build a new football tower. The school has paid the fee and submitted the application for the permit.
The commission was given a drawing to show what the new tower would look like.
The commission questioned if the tower was going to be on the same side that it’s currently on or the opposite.
“It looks like it’s going to be very nice,” Regas said.
The motion was passed by the commission and the City Council will vote on the matter at its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 7.
Also, Anderson Fabrics put a request in to the commission during the February meeting that the city vacate Carl Avenue. The Blackduck City Council approved the motion and its most recent meeting.
Regas drafted the resolution and came up with the description of what Carl Avenue consists of.
“A lot of this information also came from the county recorder since it’s a street,” Regas said of the draft.
Commission member Kurt Benson noted that the resolution did not state if Anderson Fabrics would be responsible for the water line that lies in the area.
The commission passed a motion to table the matter until the next meeting for more clarification.
A variance request also was placed by Faith Lutheran Church regarding a temporary deer fence. The draft written by Regas was accepted and the City Council will vote for approval on Monday.
The next meeting of the Planning Commission will be held at 2 p.m. May 21.
