With snow falling, winter may be here - finally
For snow lovers and others who simply like it a little bit on the chilly side, winter may be here - finally.
Snow is falling in the Bemidji area, and the National Weather Service said the area could receive up an inch.
With a forecast high near 29, the snow might stick around. If it doesn't melt Saturday.
The area has received a few snow showers late this fall and early winter, but little of it has stuck around with unseasonably warm temperatures.
Saturday, the last day of 2011, could continue that trend. The weather service said a high temperature of 34 is possible. But there also is a 40 percent of precipitation, with 1 to 2 inches possible.
For those heading out on New Year's Eve, there's a 20 percent chance of snow. Winds also are expected to increase to more than 20 mph, and gusts more than 30 mph are possible.
New Year's Day is expected to bring a high near 20 and continued blustery conditions.
High temperatures extending into next week are forecast to be moderate, with a high of 13 on Monday, 24 on Tuesday, 27 on Wednesday and 34 on Thursday.
