Snow expected today, followed by wind
The Bemidji area could see up to 3 inches of new snow today, with winds increasing later in the day, and travel could become difficult, the National Weather Service says.
High temperatures are expected near 32, with winds from switching from the south and southeast to the west. The weather service said there's an 80 percent chance of snow today, with additional snowfall possible this evening, when winds could gust as high as 36 mph.
North central Minnesota appears to be in a pocket of two winter weather advisories, with hazardous travel expected in northwestern Minnesota and northeastern Minnesota.
Conditions are expected to remain blustery for New Year's Day, with a high near 20 and winds gusting up to 38 mph. There's also a chance for more snow, with less than an inch possible.
The weather service said areas of freezing rain or snow will spread across the northern portions of North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Strong winds are likely to develop following the passage of a cold front, and visibility could be reduced due to snow.
