Another snowstorm, this one targeting the Nisswa area, limited the Bemidji boys golf team and its competition to nine holes Wednesday during the Brainerd Invitational at The Pines.
Originally scheduled for 18 holes the meet was called early when snow covered the greens. Because the golfers had played different holes when they were forced off the course, tournament officials decided to determine team and individual scores based on shots over par for nine holes instead of the traditional medal score.
"It isn't a perfect way to determine the score but it was the best way," said BHS coach Seth Knudson. "We teed off at 9:30 a.m. and an hour later the snow started. Eventually snow covered all of the greens and we had to quit.
"You can dress for the cold but there isn't anything you can do about snow," he added.
Edina took team honors as its four golfers were 12-over par for nine holes. Park High School was second at +15 and Minnetonka third at +17.
The Lumberjacks finished 11th in the 20-team field at +23.
Drew Lynch of Stillwater was meet medalist as he finished 1-over par.
The Jacks were paced by Kodi Craft at +4. Max Hazelton and Trey Dale finished +5 while Caleb Hanson was +9, Elliot Leinen +12 and Jordan Manick +13.
Bemidji will split its varsity squad Saturday. The top group will play at Greystone in Sauk Center, the site of the section tournament later this spring. The others will be at Staples.
