BEMIDJI – Smoke in the area is coming from a wildfire raging across northern Beltrami County. It also has prompted a warning from emergency responders for those with health concerns.

According to a press release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, those who are asthmatic or on oxygen are advised to keep their windows shut and have extra oxygen on hand.

They may even want to consider temporarily moving to another location while the smoke is in our area.

The smoke is coming from a wildfire that started in the Fourtown area. The fire started approximately 100 miles northwest of Bemidji and is burning in an east/northeast direction.

The smoke is traveling south due to a cold-weather front moving in.

Residents are asked to notcall 911 or law enforcement unless you see an actual fire. Dispatch phones have been overrun with inquiries.
