SKIING: Tony Sagedahl leads Bemidji at Grand Rapids meet
GRAND RAPIDS – Tony Sagedahl had the best time during Thursday’s 6-km classical ski race at Mount Itasca but Grand Rapids had too much depth as the Thunderhawks stopped the Bemidji boys ski team 388-376.
In the girls varsity meet, Grand Rapids claimed the top four spots and coasted to a 394-369 victory over the Lumberjacks TrekNorth was third with 340.
“The course was three times around a 2-km loop,” said BHS coach Mark Walters. “In the boys race, Tony ran a smart race. He stayed with the top group all the way and near the end he won the sprint.”
Tony Sagedahl’s time was 17:39 while Kyle Sagedahl finished fourth (18:08), Josh Claussen 11th (20:24) and Nate Molnar 12th (20:27).
Leading Bemidji’s girls team was Jenna Truedson who was fifth in 22:26. Morgan Sagedahl placed sixth (21:48), Maari Stocker eighth (23:14) and Summer Johnson 16th (24:49).
TrekNorth’s girls team was led by Hannah Marty who placed 10th in 23:33.
Bemidji is off until Dec. 28 when it will head to a continuous pursuit race hosted by Brainerd.
