SKIING: BHS girls second, boys fourth at DL
DETROIT LAKES — The Bemidji High School boys and girls ski teams did well at the Detroit Lakes Invitational at Maplelag Resort.
“Overall it was a good afternoon for us,” head coach Mark Walters said.
The BHS girls scored 357 points to take second behind first-place Little Falls, who scored 377 points in the win.
The Lumberjacks had three to-ten finishers: Jenna Truedson, who finished the continuous pursuit race in second place at 32 minutes, 18 seconds; Morgan Sagedahl in third at 32:18 and Maari Stocker in 10th place at 35:54.
“We had a pretty good run with the girls,” Walters said. “We don’t have much depth but to finish second, have three girls finish in the top ten, they held their own pretty well. It was nice to hang in there for second place.”
In the boys race, BHS was fourth with 341 points. Brainerd won the race with a score of 379.
Billy Freyholtz was the lone BHS skier to finish in the top ten, clocking in at 29:53.
“The boys are still a bit of a work in progress,” Walters said. “But I think they’re progressing well.”
Also Thursday, Sadie Hamrin won the junior varsity race.
The Lumberjacks return to action next Friday at Brainerd.
