BRAINERD – The Bemidji High School skiing teams had a good test against a field of mostly sectional teams in Brainerd.
The Lumberjacks boys team took second place in the eight-team Brainerd Invitational Friday at the Northland Arboretum, while the girls placed fourth out of nine.
The continuous pursuit race, which consists of a three-kilometer classical lap followed by another lap with skate skis, was good for the Bemidji boys, who scored 358 points – just one point behind the host team.
The girls scored 335 points for fourth place. Little Falls took first with 389.
“It was a good solid showing for us with all the sectional teams,” BHS head coach Mark Walters said.
On the boys side, the Lumberjacks were led by Kyle and Tony Sagedahl, who placed third and fourth, respectively. Kyle finished the race in 18 minutes, 2 seconds, while Tony was right behind in 18:03.
St. Cloud Tech’s Cory Rouw won the race at 17:57.
“Pointwise, Brainerd was missing some people, but I think we would still have been at second,” Walters said. “And the Sagedahl brothers had a great race.”
In the girls race, Jenna Truedson and Morgan Sagedahl were also neck-and-neck. Truedson finished seventh at 22:01 while Sagedahl was eighth at 22:06.
Little Falls’ Maria Hauer won the race in 20:04.
The Jacks are scheduled to return to the course next Saturday, where they’ll be at either Deer River or Alexandria, weather permitting.
