Bjorn Erik Norgaard, 23, of Dundas, Minn., wasn't a participant in the ski race event Saturday evening.

According to Sheriff Paul Susienka, Norgaard was cross country skiing back to Ashland, Wis., late Saturday or early Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle after event festivities Saturday evening.

Authorities say evidence at the scene suggested Norgaard was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Several hours after his body was found, a 16-year-old male went to police and identified himself as the driver of the vehicle. Authorities say he's and a 16-year-old passenger in the vehicle are cooperating with the investigation. The sheriff's office isn't releasing the names of the juveniles involved.
