GRANITE FALLS, Minn. -- Two suspects in a shooting last week near Granite Falls that seriously injured a man were in custody in Yellow Medicine County after a 45-minute chase Tuesday.
A man was found Friday lying on state Highway 23 south of Granite Falls, covered in blood from a gunshot wound, and was taken to a Minneapolis hospital for treatment.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune identified the victim as Daniel L. Scheff, 30, and the suspects as brothers Derek M. Hexum, 19, of Gordon, Ga., and Devin D. Hexum, 21, of Balaton, Minn.
According to a news release, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Marshall police, pursued a vehicle carrying the suspects Tuesday.
The chase started south of Marshall on Highway 23 and continued for 45 minutes through Lyon and Lincoln counties.
The pursuit ended when a Minnesota State Patrol trooper used a “pursuit intervention technique” to stop the vehicle on County Road 137, about a half-mile from the South Dakota line in Lincoln County.
The driver and passenger were treated at a hospital and released to the custody of the Yellow Medicine County sheriff.
The investigation was continuing.
