Shirley Thomas, 79, of Bemidji, MN peacefully passed away, surround by her husband and children, Friday, April 5, 2013 in her home. Exactly 49 years after her baptism with all 6 of her children at First Lutheran Church of Hines.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at New Salem Lutheran Church, Turtle River, MN with Pastor Karol McCracken officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with a 6 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackduck, MN.

Shirley Mae Jensen was born April 30, 1933 in Blackduck, MN to James and Clarice Jensen. She grew up and graduated from Blackduck High School. On November 8, 1952 she married Charles Thomas in Bemidji. In 1953, they together established Thomas Sand & Gravel which is still in operation today. She was still conducting business up until her illness kept her from working. They developed other successful businesses throughout the years. Shirley enjoyed traveling, gardening, copper sculpting, sewing and knitting. She was a woman of great talent and patience. Her other enjoyment was spending time with her friends, however, her main love and priority was her family. Shirley was an active member of the New Salem Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary in Blackduck and the DAV Auxiliary. She touched the hearts of everyone who crossed her path.

She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Thomas of Bemidji; children, Betty (Steven) Haraldson of Sweeny, TX, Charles (Debra) Thomas, Jr. of Bemidji, Donald (Suzanne) Thomas of Bemidji, Sharon (Wendell) Rutchasky of Bemidji, Linda (Richard) Dailey of Lake Tapps, WA and Sandra (Timothy) Mansavage of Cass Lake; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and brother, David (Mary) Jensen of Blackduck.

She was preceded in death by her parents and great-granddaughters, Miranda and Madelyn Thomas.
