Shakopee and Midway captured titles in the state finals Monday in games at Willmar and Bird Island.

Shakopee repeated as Class B champs, beating Dundas 3-1 in the championship game.

Dundas had forced an extra contest with a 4-3 decision in the morning opener.

Shakopee reached the final with wins over the Austin Blue Sox Hastings, Burnsville and Savage.

Dundas ousted the Mudcats 5-1 in its opener and followed with a 10-3 decision over Rochester before falling to Savage 2-1 in the third round.

But it came back to defeat Hastings 3-2, Rochester 8-0 and Savage 7-1 to gain the final.

Like Bemidji, Blaine's Fusion, the Region 6B champs, fell in the first round 1-0 to Hastings.

Bemidji has not won the state title since 1978 when competing as the Bemidji Chiefs.

Midway, another team with Bemidji connections, went undefeated to take the Class C title, shading Moorhead's Brewers 5-4 in the title round, its sixth straight win.

The Snurdbirds defeated Kasson 12-3, St. Joseph 2-0, Loretto 2-1, Raymond 4-3 and Moorhead 5-1 to gain the title game.

Moorhead ousted Howard Lake 4-1 in the losers' bracket final to gain the title round but fell to Midway for the second time.

Midway defeated the Mudcats 10-2 in an early-season game at BSU.

Both Midway and Moorhead came out of Region 16-C, the region in which Bemidji's Blue Ox competes.

The Lake to Pine League champs finished their year at 32-6.

The state meet officially ended the 2010 amateur baseball season.

Both the Mudcats and Blue Ox plan to return to the diamond next summer.
