In Duluth, U.S. District Court Chief Judge Michael J. Davis sentenced Byron Keith Kingbird, Jr., to three years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor.

Kingbird pleaded guilty last Sept. 8 and admitted that he assaulted the girl, whose was between the age of 12 and 16, in January 2009.

This case was investigated by the FBI and Red Lake Tribal Police Department.

Because the Red Lake Indian Reservation is a federal-jurisdiction reservation, some of the crimes are prosecuted in federal court.
