Setback for Israeli teen in kidney transplant
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A kidney transplant for a teenager who traveled from Israel to Minnesota for the procedure has hit a snag.
Fifteen-year-old Sarah Zalaznik and her mother say they flew to Minneapolis for the teen's transplant because of the reputation of surgeons at the University of Minnesota's Amplatz Children's Hospital. Initial tests showed the 32-year-old donor was a match. But upon further testing, the girl's surgery on Friday was scratched.
Sarah's mother, Dassie Zalanik, tells KMSP-TV the additional testing showed the donor was incompatible.
The family plans to stay in Minnesota for now, hoping for a donor match.
