Semi driver cited after colliding with bridge Saturday

BEMIDJI -- The driver of a semi that struck the 15th Street bridge received three citations following the accident, according to Minnesota State Patrol public information officer Jesse Grabow.

Dennis Wagner, 61, of International Falls was cited for wrong class/no endorsement, not possessing a log book and not having a medical card, Grabow wrote in an email.

Wagner struck the bridge just before 1 p.m. Saturday, police said. The accident shut down westbound traffic on U.S. Highway 2 for several hours.

Several beams were damaged as a result of the accident, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation is examining the bridge to determine when it will be open to traffic. The bridge remains closed indefinitely, Beltrami County emergency management director Beryl Wernberg said Tuesday night.
