The final set of postseason playoffs gets underway this week when the boys basketball teams start sectional play that will determine the 32 teams that gain the state tournament.
In Section 8-2A south, the quarterfinals are set for Thursday with Park Rapids at top-seeded Crosby-Ironton and No. 5 Pelican Rapids at No. 4 Pequot Lakes in the upper bracket.
In the lower, No. 7 Wadena-Deer Creek is at No. 2 Hawley and No. 5 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at No. 3 Perham.
In the north sub-section, Thursday finds No. 8 Warroad at top-seeded East Grand Forks and No. 5 Roseau at No. 4 Bagley in the upper bracket while No. 7 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley is at No. 2 Red Lake and No. 6 Crookston at No. 3 Thief River Falls.
In Section 8A east, Monday's play-in games at Bemidji State had Win-E-Mac beating Lake of the Woods 69-59, Red Lake County topping Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig 74-27 and Blackduck defeating Laporte 72-52.
Thursday at the BSU Gymnasium, top-seeded Cass Lake-Bena faces Win-E-Mac at 6 while fifth-seeded Clearbrook-Gonvick faces No. 4 Fosston at 7:45.
In the lower bracket Thursday at Bemidji High School, No. 2 Mahnomen plays Blackduck in the opener while No. 3 Kelliher-Northome tangles with Red Lake County at 8 at Bemidji High.
In 8A west quarterfinals Thursday at Crookston, Sacred Heart challenges top-seeded Kittson County Central and No. 5 Stephen-Argyle battles No. 4 Northern Freeze.
In 8A west quarterfinals Thursday at Thief River Falls, No. 3 Warren goes against, No. 6 Badger-Greenbush-Middle River and No. 2 Grygla faces the Fertile-Beltrami or Goodridge.
