BHS was seeded seventh in the field while the Knights owned the second seed. In Thursday's game SMA proved that it deserved the high ranking as it dominated the action from the midpoint of the first half.

"St. Michael is a very good, very athletic team," said BHS coach Rick Kehoe. "Everybody on the floor for St. Michael is quick and fast and they were too much for us. We couldn't handle them or their pressure."

For 10 minutes Bemidji did stick with the Knights as the Lumberjacks trailed only 15-13. Greta Steever's rebound basket with 4:25 to play in the opening half kept the Jacks within range at 22-17 but the home team finished the half on an 11-2 run and enjoyed a 33-11 advantage at the break.

"Against a team like this you don't get many windows of opportunities," Kehoe said. "When you do have one of those windows you must take advantage of it and we didn't.

"We're young but another year of experience will make us that much better next year."

SMA dominated the second half and three minutes into the stanza the lead was 43-23. With 11 minutes to play the cushion was 56-26 and the final eight minutes were played under running time.

Bemidji ended the winter 11-15. The team will graduate three seniors including Jenna Sagedahl, Cori Treat and Caitlin Hadrava.

"I've known this group of seniors since they were in seventh grade and they are a great group of kids to be around," Kehoe said. "They are always upbeat and a fun group. They will be missed."

Jess Yost had nine points to pace Bemidji's offense while Greta Steever finished with eight, Dani Gronhovd seven and Hadrava six.
