Search continues for missing Staples man, effort scaled back with no new clues

STAPLES - As the search for a missing 82-year-old Staples man in Cass County enters its sixth day, authorities are still searching but have scaled back the search after finding no new clues since Saturday.

Peter Achermann, 82, has been missing since Friday when he was last seen in Staples. His 1995 Chevrolet station wagon he was driving was located Saturday stuck on a dead-end dirt road in northern Becker Township in Cass County, northeast of Staples.

Authorities and volunteers are still searching today.

Achermann is a white man, about 5-foot-9, 175 pounds and has a gray beard and generally walks with a cane. He lives on a Moose Lake Township farm north of Leader.

Cass County authorities are still focusing their search on a remote heavily wood area in northern Becker Township.
