Minnesota Athletes in Sports Medicine Scholarship: Seniors athletes who intends to attend college to pursue a career in sports medicine. Deadline is May 15.
Debbie & Janet Foundation Scholarship: Seniors graduating from Blackduck High School. Deadline is May 1.
Dollars for Scholars: Blackduck High School seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and are involved in extracurriculars. Deadline is April 27 by 4:30 p.m.
Blackduck Drakes Speech team are the Section 7A champions! On Saturday, the speakers placed first out of 18 total schools. Nineteen Blackduck speakers are advancing to state along with 15 others who placed in the tough section final round.
"All season, we had 57 speakers who worked hard to get to state," said speech coach Jennifer Parker. Blackduck led the Class A field by qualifying those 19 speakers.
Tournament champions were Mathew Jedlicka in Drama, Sean Hotvedt in Extemp Reading, Nick Liapis in Great Speeches, Alex Schuman in Humor, Katie Slindee in Informative Speaking, Tyler Dobmeier in Original Oratory and Kate Olafson in Poetry.
In second place and advancing to state are Kelsey Tjepkes in Discussion, Jon Wiley in Great Speeches, Brandon Beck in Informative Speaking, Ian Anderson in Original Oratory and Courtney Kovall in Poetry.
Third place finishers advancing to state are Saleena Normanleier in Drama, Connor Cease and Chris O'Reilly in Duo, Amelia Dernier in Great Speeches, Emily Biberg in Humor, Alayna Nestberg in Prose and Kathryn Vocke in Storytelling.
Receiving fourth place were Celene Bodien in Drama, Katie O'Rourke in Prose and Kristie Slindee in Storytelling. Fifth lace winners were Alex Howard in Discussion, Justin Chase in Informative Speaking and Mike O'Reilly in Original Oratory.
Sixth place medalists were Shannon Budde in Creative Expression, and Madison Stelton in Prose.
Rounding out the Drakes finalists in seventh place were Charles Biberg in Discussion, Jacob Wiley in Poetry and Tessa Tindell in Prose.
Monday: Junior high and varsity softball at home against Pine River at 5 p.m. and junior high golf in Virginia and boys varsity golf in Walker at 11 a.m.
Tuesday: Junior high and varsity baseball in Pine River at 4 p.m., junior high and varsity softball at home against Indus at 5 p.m. and junior high track in Northome.
Wednesday: Varsity girls golf in Walker at 11 a.m.
Thursday: Varsity baseball at home against Laporte at 5 p.m., junior high and varsity softball at home against Kelliher at 5 p.m. and boys and girls varsity golf in Walker at 4:45 p.m.
Friday: Junior high, JV and varsity baseball in Cass Lake at 5 p.m. and varsity track in Walker.
April 30: Honor Roll
GPS class will be held May 4 at 6 p.m. in the high school library. The fee is $5.
Metal Detecting will be held May 18 in the High School Library. The fee is $5.
Adult Basic Education is held Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m. at the Blackduck Resource Center.
Wednesday Night Volleyball is held at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. The fee is $3 per night.

Aerobics will be held Monday-Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the school gym. Bring a towel.
Open gym is Sundays from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $1 per person or $5 per family.

Cassandra Bonar, a senior at Northome High School, has received a $1,250 Achievement Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
She is the daughter of Thomas and Hope Bonar of Northome and intends to major in psychology.
The following students have participated in BSU's student scholarship and creative achievement conference:
Nancy Shimanski, a senior from Hines, is majkoring in accounting and presented "Solving the Tax Benefits for Education Puzzle."
Blaize Frenzel and Lori Neft, both from Northome, presented "What Element Are You?" and "Student Use of Social Networking Sites to Communicate About Alcohol" respectively.
Frenzel is a senior majoring in chemistry and Neft is a junior majoring in psychology.
Beka Majava of Tenstrike, a senior criminal justice major, presented "Perspectives on the Red Lake/Beltrami County Jurisdictional Line."
Donna Majava, of Tenstrike is a senior sociology major and presented "Influenza Pandemic: Expectations of Emergency Management Response Plans for Household Preparedness in Four Selected Minnesota Counties."
Also from Tenstrike, Mark Woodward, a senior biology major presented "Functional Analysis of the Na/H Exchanger Serine/Threonine to Alanine Mutants."
