Scholarships available

The following scholarship applications are available in the high school office:

Prudential Spirit of Community Award: All students who volunteer in their communities. Apply online at http://spirit.prudential.com. Deadline is Nov. 2.

Coca-Cola Scholarships: Truly motivated dedicated, and high school seniors. Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org. Deadline is Oct. 31.

Oct. 12: Parent-Teacher Conferences

Oct. 14: PSAT test given to juniors and sophomores who are interested

Oct. 27: Junior and seniors can attend a career fair at Kelliher School at 8:30 a.m. and a representative from St. Scholastica will be in the student commons.

Oct. 28: 3:30 p.m., a representative from the University of Minnesota - Duluth will be in the student commons.

Oct. 29: 8:30 a.m., a representative from Itasca Community College will be in the student commons.

Sports Calendar

Monday: JV football at home against Cass Lake at 5 p.m.

Tuesday: Seventh and eighth grade football -- in Cass Lake at 5 p.m. and Bemidji at 6 p.m. respectively; seventh, eighth grade, JV and varsity volleyball at home against Cass Lake at 6 p.m.

Thursday: Varsity football at home against Hawley at 7 p.m.

Community Ed

Craft Class will be held Oct. 21 from 4:20-6:15 p.m. in the high school commons. The fee is $10 and you must pre-register by Oct. 7.

Wednesday Night Volleyball starts Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. The cost is $3 per night.

Eight Hour Defensive Driving will be held Oct. 27-28 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $14 to AARP and $4 to Blackduck Community Ed.

Four Hour Refresher Defensive Driving will be held Oct. 29 5:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $14 to AARP and $4 to Blackduck Community Ed.

Excel class will be held Oct. 22 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the business lab, room 407. The fee is $20.

Small Willow Basket class will be held Oct. 22 from 6:30-9 p.m. in the comons area. The fee is $20.

Kelliher

Week of Oct. 12-16

Community Ed

Pick pumpkins and wander the corn field at Lazy Acres. The cost is $8 and includes transportation. Pre-register by Oct. 20. Make checks payable to Kelliher Community Ed.

Let's make Cookies, sponsored by the FCCLA, Oct. 29 from 3:15-5 p.m. at the Kelliher School. This is for grades 1-6 and the fee is $5. Pre-register by Oct. 22.

Open gym is Sundays from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $1 per person or $5 per family.

Kelliher fitness center is open

Fall is here and it's that time of year again when the weather is getting colder and it's not as much fun to walk outside. Don't forget about the Kelliher Fitness Center.

The center is located in the Old School Center and is open 24/7. When you join the fitness center, you receive a key fob that gives you access.

The center has something for everyone. There are treadmills, elliptical machines, a stationary bike, a rowing machine, a nu-step machine and an extensive weight machine. There is also air conditioning in the summer, PBTV and a dvd player available for viewing exercise tapes. Water is available for sale for 50¢ per bottle.

Check with your health insurance provider. They may reimburse you $20 per month towards your fitness membership.

If you would like to join the Kelliher Fitness Center, please contact Kelliher City Hall or go on the city of Kelliher website at citykelr@paulbunyan.net to get an application.

Membership fees are $25 for a single monthly membership, $50 per month for family/friends memberhsip (two people), $50 for 10 visits (no time limit to use and you receive fob), $5 per time (must accompany member), $270 per year for a single membership or $486 for a family/friends membership.

Members who qualify for insurance reimbursement do not qualify for the family/friends discount.
