Early Childhood screening set
Blackduck Public School is sponsoring a health and developmental screening for preschool children.
Early childhood screening is a simple, careful check for vision, hearing, developmental level, speech and language, health history, and immunization review for young children.
This year's screening will be offered to children who were 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2010.
Participation in the screening is mandatory before entering kindergarten and is at no cost to the parents.
Parents concerned about the health and development of their child are encouraged to call the school (835-5300) about arranging a screening. This screening program is not a substitute for ongoing health care from a physician or other health provider.
The screening is held at the Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck May 4. Call Lori at 835-5300 for an appointment or if you have any questions.
Minnesota FFA announces honorary degree recipients
Twenty-one exceptional teachers, individuals and companies who have demonstrated continued success and support of the FFA and/or agricultural education will receive 2011 honorary degrees from Minnesota FFA later this month.
Each year the Minnesota FFA Association recognizes the contributions of people who have made a significant impact and contributions to the success on the students and the organization. Many of these people have served in leadership roles with our state officers, served as chairs for career development events, or worked with the foundation and alumni events.
The recipients of this year's awards will be announced during the annual Minnesota FFA Convention May 1-3 on the University of Minnesota campus.
Blackduck FFA teacher Mark Friesen will be participating in the ceremony and will awarded an honorary degree.
Blood drive is success
A total of 57 people volunteered to donate blood, and 49 were able to give during Blackduck High School's April 12 blood drive.
Twelve people gave blood on the automated 2RBC machine which collects two units of red blood cells during the donation, so a total of 61 products were collected. Sixteen of the donors gave for their first time.
Mr. Carey coordinated the drive, and the National Honor Society sponsored and assisted with recruiting donors, publicity, providing refreshments, and registering donors. Space to hold the drive was provided at Blackduck High School.
On behalf of the patients who benefited, United Blood Services appreciates all the thoughtful people who volunteered to help others by giving of themselves.
Blood is for sharing; you have truly given the "Gift of Life."
