At 7 a.m., the board will hold a special meeting in the District Office conference room to discuss staffing at Bemidji Middle School for the 2009-10 school year.

At 4 p.m., the board will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Bemidji High School Media Center where budget reductions also will be a topic. The meeting time is earlier than usual due to the BHS Hall of Fame Banquet scheduled for 6 p.m. in the BHS Commons.

When the board began examining ways to pare down its budget by $2 million for the 2009-10 school year, it considered making $1 million in staff reductions and adjusting its spending budget by $1.1 million by reducing spending and generating more revenue.

On May 5, the board made nearly $1.3 million in licensed staff reductions. Meanwhile, district administration also is making non-licensed staff reductions for this school year and the next.

Staff cuts at BMS

On May 5, the board exceeded its target for licensed staff reductions at BMS by 1.92 full-time-equivalent staff. The target for BMS was to reduce staff by 3.92 FTE.
