Saxhaug leading Pederson in Senate District 5 primary

The race for Senate District 5 will be between two existing senators due to redistricting.

In the DFL primary vote for District 5 Tuesday, current District 5 Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids, was leading Bemidji resident Laverne “Pedie” Pederson by a substantial margin just before midnight. With 93 of 128 precincts reporting, Saxhaug had 72.26 percent of the votes, while Pederson had collected 27.74 percent.

The winner will face current District 4 Sen. John Carlson, R-Bemidji.
