BEMIDJI – Sanford Bemidji Medical Center will celebrate its new Sanford Bemidji Heart and Vascular Center with a range of events Friday.

A public open house will be 3:30-5:30 p.m., offering information on and tours of the new center. Interested parties should report to the Education Center at the main entrance of the hospital.

Prior to the open house, chaplain Mark Papke-Larson and Larry Stillday will dedicate the new center with a non-denominational blessing and an American Indian blessing.

Paul Hanson, president of Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota, and Drs. Kris Anderson and Nur Jameel will offer remarks. The Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce will then hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new 6,450-square-foot center features a cardiology clinic, cardiac catheterization lab and prep and recovery area. The center will allow interventional cardiologists to care for up to 1,100 patients a year and vascular surgeons to care for up to 1,100 patients as well, more than double the current capacity.
