Sanford to merge with Alexandria clinic

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - Broadway Medical Center and Sanford Health announced Thursday that they have signed a "definitive agreement" to merge effective Jan. 1.

Broadway Medical Center will become Sanford Health Broadway Clinic. It has 25 physicians and providers as well as a staff of more than 100 in Alexandria and a satellite clinic in Parkers Prairie.

"We both have strong commitments to our local communities, and together we are confident there are opportunities for further growth and partnership in the Alexandria area," Dr. Doug Griffin, Broadway Medical Center's president, said in a statement.

"We look forward to working together," Dr. Bruce Pitts, Sanford Health's chief medical officer, added in the statement. "Our focus is on enhancing access to medical services for people in the Alexandria area."

Broadway Medical Center services include en­do­cri­nology, family medicine, general surgery, hospitalists, internal medicine, obstetrics-gynecology and midwifery care, oncology and podiatry.

Alexandria, with a population of 11,000, is 100 miles east of Fargo on Interstate 94.

Sanford Health is the largest rural, nonprofit health care system in the nation with locations in 112 communities in seven states.
