BEMIDJI – Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota has been recognized as a Platinum-Level “Start!” Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association’s “Start!” initiative for helping employees eat better and move more.
-- Offer employees physical activity options at work.
-- Increase healthy eating options at the worksite.
-- Promote a wellness culture in the workplace.
-- Implement at least nine criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
-- Demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.
The Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota Employee Wellness Program provides numerous opportunities for employees to engage in healthy behaviors during the workday and in daily life. Some of these include sponsoring various wellness challenges each year, offering an on-site 24-hour fitness facility with one-on-one personal training, receiving several educational materials regarding health and wellness; and gaining extra motivation and support from wellness specialists to help make healthy lifestyle choices and achieve health and fitness goals while having fun.
The “Start!” Fit-Friendly Companies Program is meant to be a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping companies make their employees’ health and wellness a priority.
