The hospital was placed on lockdown just after 8 p.m. when police believed that a retaliation for the assault would take place there, police said. One person was taken into custody in Cass Lake, but their identity was not immediately available.

Police were called at 6:36 p.m. to an unidentified location in the 1300 block of Quill Lane SE, 11 miles east of Bemidji. A helicopter was sent to the area to transport at least one of the assault victims. It landed in the parking lot of Leech Lake College, 6945 Little Wolf Road NW to retrieve the victim.

The condition of the female or the second victim were unavailable.

As of 9 p.m. the hospital remained on lockdown, but police said no one had arrived there for any possible retaliation.
